“Celebrities” I would like to see less of in 2009
By joemiko
Do you know who they are and why they are celebrities?

There a lot of “celebrities” who baffle me as to why they are worth even a moment of our consideration or attention. They have little or no talent and they have not contributed anything of consequence to society. Yet, we can’t get away from them. Here is my list of some of the celebrities I would like to see less of in 2009.

Britney Spears: The lights are on but there are no signs of intelligent life. She is a mediocre singer, who, no doubt, has the best agent and/or manger in the whole wide world because she is everywhere.

Miley Syrus: Minor talent but attitude far above and beyond her young and tender 16 years. Like Britney Spears, Miley isn’t much of a vocalist (both got their start on the Disney channel) but, unlike Britney, apparently this one can’t even dance. Remember Mily Vanily who were discovered to lip syncing their songs to other people singing? Miley was discovered to have someone else dance in her place during her live concert performances. A look-alike body double cleverly switched places with her on stage during dance numbers.

Jonas Brothers: I have heard some of their “music.” Not by choice, but because, like Miley Syrus, they keep popping up on television shows that are aimed at more mature audiences then their pre-puberty fan base. Their music is not very melodic and they do not have very good voices. The Jonas Brothers are just right for the Disney channel, where they will soon have their own show.

Paris Hilton: A spoiled rich party girl, who has no talent of any kind other than a knack for washing cars. From all evidence she is no rocket scientist but perhaps a brain donor, which would explain a lot.

The Kardashians (pictured): I had to Google them to find out how and why these women were suddenly celebrities when one of them showed up as a “star” on this season’s “Dancing with the Stars.” Daughters of a prominent L.A. attorney who passed away and left them money, the girls opened a chic women’s boutique where Paris Hilton shops. They hooked up and by association assimilation the Kardashians are now also celebrities. People generally feel comfortable being around others with whom they share similarities. The Kardashians and Paris Hilton apparently have a lot in common.

Regis Philbin: One of the biggest no talent money makers in Hollywood since Ed McMahon. Regis became a celebrity by talking to celebrities. He is obviously overwhelmed by his own perception of his prominence.

What does it say about our society that it takes mere wealth to be elevated to celebrity status. The people mentioned have no talent or redeeming qualities. Don't get me wrong, there are some young people with money who have had lifelong examples of philanthropy in the older generations of their families, but those are not the families we are discussing.. For the most part, those rich is talking of live idle, vain lives. They never mention faith, charity or any subject other than what brings them attention or pleasure (drinking, drugs, dancing, parties, fashion).

Sad......

Sorry, blog is joe's not rich's.

Salamander- exactly right. The word that comes to my mind is shallow. I actually feel a little sorry for some of them though. There will be a heavy price to pay, some are already paying it, for this celebrity status. I have a feeling that for some of the "celebrities" mentioned above, their stories will have pretty sad epilogues.

This is such an unfortunate commentary on our society.

People magazine paid 14 Million dollars for the photos of the Pitt-Jolie twins.

The upside of this craziness is the money went to Pitt a foundation created by Pitt and Jolie that largely focuses on helping children around the world.

Add Michael Jackson and his hordes of hangers-on to that list. How many hours of endless "...he was the best ever, broke color barriers, set new standards, loved everyone...etc., ad nauseum" crap can we stand. I'm selling my original "Thriller" album for whatever it brings just to get it out of my house. I'm tired of the insults to other truly great entertainers (like Sammy Davis Jr.), etc.) who laid the groundwork for "stars" like Jackson and his sick habits. At least there won't be any more talk of a phantom 50 event tour...yeah, right!

And a whole bunch of little boys will sleep better without him around.

Just how stupid are we these days? Beyond comprehension!

And then there's the "journalists". Larry who?
