Drinking Champagne and Driving Us Into Depression
As Rome Burns, Obama fiddles...
Obama plans regular happy hours By AMIE PARNES | 2/10/09 4:47 AM EST
You can stiff the president on a policy issue and defy him on a political one, but who can turn down an invitation to the White House?
Using one of the world’s most famous private residences as bait, President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama are unleashing a bipartisan charm offensive and exploiting every square inch of their new home to make friends and influence rivals. The social calendar suggests a return to the days of Camelot.
Since moving into their new digs, the first couple has hosted a half-dozen gatherings — from bipartisan cocktail receptions to a public open house to the more intimate Super Bowl party two Sundays ago — ending many of their days past midnight. Most recently, on Wednesday, the Obamas opened the White House doors to House caucus leaders from the moderate Blue Dog Democrats and the Congressional Black Caucus. White House aides say the couple hopes to make the Wednesday cocktail parties a tradition.
Friends say the Obamas are looking to maintain the dizzying social calendar they had in their pre-White House days, while using their knack for socializing to find new friends and win hearts on Capitol Hill and in other Washington power centers... From politico.com
Like an over-exuberant party of last night, expect the next day to be a long, painful hangover.

What can you say other than: Drunk with Power. I like the chart BTW pretty accurate.
Hmmmm....and let's try to remember the Bush years, shall we?
No blaming Bush for Obama’s bad leadership and behaviors.
Obama will make Bush, Clinton, Carter and pretty much any other president I can think of, look like piker’s. Obama is on the fast track to destroying everything this country was built on, stands for and could be.

You can read the entire story at the posted link. "Like an over-exuberant party of last night, expect the next day to be a long, painful hangover." Interesting linking of the dots...the complete story seems to indicate a less than "over-exuberant party" atmosphere. Interesting to note the ability to invite those that have different political stripes as well. Seems to be an attempt at reaching out. I know R_T is quick to point out that we should not take things out of context, therefore I recommend reading the entire article before drawing any conclusions.
How much are these cocktail parties costing us? I am sure they are not ordering up the two-buck-chuck.
I expect to see a lot of Democrat sheep baaaa baaaa baaaa'ing about Bush, etc.
The fact is, since Obama has come in, the stock market which was levelling off, is now falling again with renewed disaster.
I expect his announcement of surrender in Iraq today is going to lead to what was a success, turning into disaster.
His budget extravagance during a time of recession...more disaster.
His focus on big government...more disaster.
Its clear that the man is sipping champagne as the titanic is starting to list, and demanding that the band keep playing.
More partisan drivel.
Take a picture, make up a story........
I sure am glad Bush never had any of those political parties. I wonder if the President is supposed to live a solitary life, no company, go to bed at 8 to save on electricity and NO ALCOHOL IN THE WHITE HOUSE!!!

What about Bushes drunken years? Cocaine use, drunk and disorderly, AWOL from the guard, and being the dumbest president we ever had. President Obama has done more in 1 month than Bushy did in 5 years. Get a grip RT.
It really fires me up when people direct the performance of the markets to the president. The president doesn't have NEARLY as much influence over the markets as suggested. Ben Bernanke is far far more influential. If you want to make comparisons about Index performance then of the previous 4 presidents only under Bush did the Index have a zero return whereas under Clinton, Bush Sr, Regan the return was roughly 15%. It's not that Bush Jr implemented bad policy it is just the we had a tech bubble and mortgage bubble implosion while he was in office. The fact is things will only continue to get worse because of the MORTGAGE crisis. Neither McCain of Obama can turn the markets around through any policy or non-policy in the next year. Foreclosures have yet to hit their peak so don't expect any realized positive returns. Besides as an investor you should be excited for this opportunity. "Be greedy when others are fearful, and be fearful when others are greedy." This is a historic buying opportunity across all markets.
glennmeadowvista: layoff the crack pipe dude
there is no proof Bush did cocaine, yet 0bama hood admits it's use
Bush AWOL ? WTF have you been
ever hear of Dan Rather
yeah, he was fired for using forged doc's to allege Bush going AWOL
fired, Dan
fraud, Dan
finished, Dan
freak - that's you Glenn
but you are right, 0bama hood of Sherwood Forest on the Potomac
has done more to harm the country in one month than Bush cumulatively
InConPost,
Thomas Jefferson never said that. It was Gerald Ford (14 July 1913 – 26 December 2006), the 38th President of the United States who said:
"A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have.
[source: Presidential address to a joint session of Congress, 12 August 1974]
You're welcome.
If the stock market, "which was leveling off", is your only indicator, then of course you missed the just released figures for the 6.2% decrease in GDP in the 4th qtr. of 2008...I believe that was prior to the inauguration of President Obama. Might that not have an impact on the stock market, as with the unemployment figures and other factors other than who the President has been for 40 days?
Interesting to note; Obama's "announcement of surrender" seems to have more Republican support than Democratic support.
I don't particularly like the feel of all this money the government is spending, but we certainly had been spiraling down before President Obama took office, he was elected on a platform of change and we are seeing change. I'm willing (thought with some reluctance) to give this a chance. I certainly was not happy with the direction we were headed with the policies in place. Less taxes for those out of work doesn't help them. When people are out of work, they don't spend money, and products not being purchased mean producers have to cut back and the cycle repeats itself. If you cut the taxes of those producing goods, they will not hire people to produce them, until people start buying the products...somewhere it seems we need someone to start purchasing and unfortunately I guess the government has the power to do that.
Well, let's see.
Bush takes office on January 20, 2000. DJIA is at about 10,600.
Bush announces the Ownership Society in his 2005 State of the Union speech. DJIA is at about 10,400.
Bush leaves office on January 20, 2009. DJIA is at 8,077.
“When once a republic is corrupted, there is no possibility of remedying any of the growing evils but by removing the corruption and restoring its lost principles; every other correction is either useless or a new evil.”
Thomas Jefferson
If that’s not Obama….I don’t know what is.
More gets accomplished in terms of productive consensus, communciation and understanding in a half-hour at a bi-partisan cocktail party at the White House than has been accomplished by Tom McClintock in his entire career of obfuscation, obstruction and partisanship.
The parties at the White House are just what's needed to break down artificial barriers and align on a direction for the country. My hat is off to President Obama. Bush failed miserably to use the asset of his time and the White House venue. He brought people there to tell them what he thinks not to hear what they have to say, it was very rarely bipartisan and never conducted in a truly congenial atmosphere. More often than not, though, he disappeared to Crawford to clear brush.
Miuwtant: That's because Bush believed that drinking, like sex, was an activity best enjoyed alone. But I fear we're losing sight of the really important issue here.
Charles Heidsieck 1995 Blanc des Millenaires is a superb 100 percent chardonnay champagne. It is creamy and elegant yet has depth and power with all the qualities of a fabulous tetes de cuvee; best of all, it is drinkable now for only $90. On the other hand, anyone can pay $120 for a 1996 Dom Perignon and get a wine with lesser initial impact but with a greater age potential.
What champagnes were served?
so Miuwtard: if you're blaming Bush for the stock market going down on his watch, in spite of 9/11 and the Clinton recession and dot com meltdown, then your boy 0bama has to take responsibility for the crash since he won the election
and if you believe more gets done over cocktails than a conference table, then why not love Bush, who you claim was a drinker ?
libs make no sense because they have no common sense
Do I sense some frustration in your post? Do I sense a LOT of frustration in your post?
Yes, I do.
Sorry your party is not doing so well. Too bad you do nothing but make it worse, yourself.
During the past decade this country has been intoxicated by corporate, government and personal greed. We are now suffering the hangover from hell (if one believes hell truly exists)! Rehab is the only way to rid the 'scum of the scum' from the United States of Waste. The screams of withdrawal are going to be heard for quite some time.
The Obama's are hosting bipartisan cocktail parties, and you're whining about this?
I mean really!?
Pathetic.
I really liked that last Bi-partisan cocktail party that recently was held in Washington. Left us tax payers with a trillion dollar tab and a 480 million dollar tip... My kind a party..How much is the next party gonna cost us?
Sorry forgot to post some facts from a previous post by Miuwtant
"More gets accomplished in terms of productive consensus, communciation and understanding in a half-hour at a bi-partisan cocktail party at the White House than has been accomplished by Tom McClintock in his entire career of obfuscation, obstruction and partisanship."
Yup Trillions of tax dollars gone in 30 minutes.......
Skeptic, that is the funniest thing I've ever read! "That's because Bush believed that drinking, like sex, was an activity best enjoyed alone." It should be engraved over the entrance to the library he is planning!!! What a hoot...
Mitchell. Funny. Has nothing to do though with the Blogpost though.
Miuwtant:
The people who are trying to advise us on how to fix our problems are the same people who caused our problems in the first place.
Imagine that.
Rational_Thinker,
Your photo is misleading. President Obama is not drinking champagne. That's a white wine glass he's holding, not a champagne flute.
Liar.
Well, maybe he's not lying.
When you park your rear in a chair at the back of the house everyday hunched over a PC in your robe and your t-shirt you lose the ability to make distinctions like that.
Oh. I see.
I imagine he lives in a dark trailer filled with cats and mold. Do you see that?
Not cats. Ferrets.
Dang! I wish I had caught the wine glass!
Common___Sence...good to read you are back
