If A Soldier Dies in the Woods....
and the media downplays the story of a Muslim who converted in prison, traveled on a Somali passport to Kenya, learned terrorist tactics, then returned to the US to plot murder, mayhem and terror... does his family mourn?
Perhaps its just misfortune for Pvt. William Long of Little Rock Arkansas was killed on the same day that a late term abortion doctor George Tiller was gunned down.
The media was forced to choose between glorifying a man who had killed thousands of young, fully formed children as they prepared to exit the womb, or honor a man who served his country and died at the hands of a terrorist.
The media, according to a Google search found it necessary to produce 7801 articles related to Tiller's murder, and yet when a US Army Soldier is gunned down by an Islamic terrorist on the same day, only a few hundred related articles pop up.
I bet for many reading this blog, this is the first news that an American soldier was killed ON OUR SOIL by an Islamic terrorist who had international ties.
Why?
The answer is clear to me. The media has decided that if they don't tell you about a terrorist attack on our soil, it did not happen.
They can turn a blind eye to a soldier being killed, but they are feeding the enemy. The enemy will decide they need to make a bigger statement to get the press. Prepare for 9/11 part deux. They will not stop just because the media ignores them.
We saw a recent case of terrorists being stopped in the process of dropping bombs on a Synagogue. That was publicized to make Obama look good.
We know they are plotting something. The question is not if, but when they succeed in a massive way.
Obama has endangered our nation by going into the Islamic world and apologizing, and thus admitting to things that we have not done. He is giving them strength. He is bringing on our downfall. Its only a matter of time until they strike bigger, and harder than before.

I saw it earlier today. It is interesting to find out about, not only this incident, but other types,.... tune in to most local news and see nonthing of it. At least the info is still slipping out.
The media has downplayed this story in stark contrast to the love-fest they are giving George Tiller.
As this story grows (because they cannot stop it..thank God for the internet) the details are showing many fundamental flaws in our system.
1) We allow radical Muslim clerics into our prisons to recruit and indoctrinate alienated blacks into the Muslim faith.
2) We allow radical Muslims to provide "training" to these newly indoctrinated candidates by providing fake passports and transportation to training camps.
3) We allow them back into the country once trained in "special forces operations" by Islamic fundamentalists.
4) We pretend it did not happen when its possible to ignore.
They WILL launch something bigger, more devastating, and get the media's attention. People will die because our nation is drifting back to sleep.
It will be tragically ironic if the motive of this vicious crime unfolds at trial according to the perp's own statement (as quoted by the NY Times):
"“Mr. Muhammad stated that he was mad at the U.S. military because of what they had done to Muslims in the past,” an arrest report filed by the Little Rock police said. “Mr. Muhammad further stated that he would have killed more soldiers if they had been on the parking lot.”
Why?
Many experts have made an extremely strong case that the way the U.S. prosecuted the so-called "war on terror" has created more terrorists than it has put out of action. This appears on the surface to be an example of that phenomena unfolding in the worst way possible. O_P has personally downplayed the potential for that kind of backlash many times on this site and yet here he is posting what appears to be a textbook example of the old adage of what you reap, you sow.
I am not condoning the despicable actions of an extremist. I simply question whether he is the product of the "liberal media" or the policies that intelligent and knowledgeable people have considered hazardous to U.S. security for years.
I did the exact same job that Private Long and Private Ezeagwula were doing when they were attacked. Fresh out of boot camp I was assigned on temporary duty to a recruiting office. Our job was to go out into the community in uniform to get young people interested in the Navy. We were worried about being targeted by anti-military groups but nothing like that ever happened. I am so sorry for Private Long's family, and I hope his fellow soldier recovers quickly and fully. I hope Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad - or whatever his name is since he apparently has changed it more than once - gets to spend the rest of his life in a U.S. jail worrying every second about a shiv slipping between his ribs.
Meanwhile, a Google News search of "Private William Long" produced almost 1,800 news articles - far more than the "few hundred" our resident right-wing fact-loose pundit cited. Meanwhile, his fearful worries that Obama is "bringing on our downfall" sound like the statements somebody with a tenuous grasp of reality might make. They struck big and hard when GWB was president and Clinton was to blame according to O_P so I guess his reasoning if they strike big and hard while Obama is president then Obama's to blame. Wait!? That doesn't make any sense!
The ICD-10 defines "Paranoid Personality Disorder" as characterized by at least 3 of the following:
(a) excessive sensitivity to setbacks and rebuffs;
(b) tendency to bear grudges persistently, i.e. refusal to forgive insults and injuries or slights;
(c) suspiciousness and a pervasive tendency to distort experience by misconstruing the neutral or friendly actions of others as hostile or contemptuous;
(d) a combative and tenacious sense of personal rights out of keeping with the actual situation;
(e) recurrent suspicions, without justification, regarding sexual fidelity of spouse or sexual partner;
(f) tendency toward excessive self-importance;
(g) preoccupation with unsubstantiated "conspiratorial" explanations of events both immediate and in the world at large.
Old_Pee demonstrates at least five, and possibly all seven of these symptoms.
"The media has decided that if they don't tell you about a terrorist attack on our soil, it did not happen."
Nonsense. Dr. Tiller was killed on our soil by a Christian terrorist.
The assassination, in front of his wife and friends, of a prominent citizen, for exercising his legal rights as an American, by an armed religious fanatic in a crowded church is a pretty good example of domestic terrorism. In addition, a soldier expects that he will be shot at. A gynecologist does not.
I agree with you O_P. This is what Hannity calls, "Journalism is dead in America". The liberal media is just interested in reporting news that fit their agenda.
The agenda of the media is to get ratings, and make money. The death of Private Long is a tradedy.
Miuwtant: You immediately lean to believing this guys supposed basis for committing this act of terrorism don't you? That is just pathetic. You want to believe it, so you do.
Skeptic; You say...
My Quote: "The media has decided that if they don't tell you about a terrorist attack on our soil, it did not happen."
Your Quote: "Nonsense. Dr. Tiller was killed on our soil by a Christian terrorist." -- Dr. Tiller got plenty of press...oh, ya, you must have missed that.
Your Quote: "The assassination, in front of his wife and friends, of a prominent citizen, for exercising his legal rights as an American, by an armed religious fanatic in a crowded church is a pretty good example of domestic terrorism."... No, it was murder. The killer did not obtain fake passports, train in foreign camps, return with a list of attacks he planned to execute. What Tiller did was reprehensible, but yes, with the willing allies like you, he was legally able to murder those unborn children and should not have been killed.
Your Quote: In addition, a soldier expects that he will be shot at. A gynecologist does not." You know this is despicable in many ways. Pvt Long was a recruiter in Arkansas...you justify his murder based on the fact he was in the military? Pathetic.
Go to Fox News and do a search on William Long Killing, and then do a search on George Tiller killing. William Long gets over 100,000 hits, and George Tiller gets almost 44,000 hits.
O_P,
I listen to what most of you would call the liberal media. I heard about this murder the day it happened.
Do you know the liberal media isn't reporting on this story because you listen to the liberal media, or is conservative media telling you that the liberal media is not reporting on this story?
That's exactly what I was thinking J_P. I heard about it too when it happened. Please answer Joszef's question 0_P.
Also, it is a sad story, I feel for the family of Pvt. Long, as well as the young soldier who is recovering from his injuries. I also feel bad for the family of Dr. Tiller. Both stories are tragic, and to minimize the importance of either does not honor these men whose lives were taken from them by angry zealots.
O_P,
I'm not believing the guy. Those are your words, not mine. I put what he said to the Arkansas police as reported by the NYT in my coment and asked a question: If his statement is true (and facts at trial support this) then what does that say about the efficacy of the war on terror? It's an extremely valid and important question. You can choose to blow it off if you like but by doing so you are just showing how close-minded you are.
You don't like the question at all, do you? Because if the answer is the guy was truly motivated by Abu Ghraib, rendition, the Haditha killings etc. then it undercuts the very strategy of the war on terror as practiced by the Bush Administration that you have so vocally supported. it undercuts your argument that Charlie Brown's attendance at an anti-war rally hurt the country and flips the situation around to point the finger of blame back at yourself for supporting a severely flawed strategy that has made America and Americans less safe. Yeah, I can see why you would try to blow this off.
On your retort to Skeptic you argue that Tiller's alleged killer is not a terrorist because he didn't go overseas, get a fake passport, blah blah. Then what do you call Timothy McVeigh? A simple murderer or a domestic terrorist?
Private Long's murder is despicable and cannot be justified at any level. Neither Skeptic nor I are saying his killing was somehow "justified" or "morally supportable". I think the killer is a terrorist and should be prosecuted to the maximum extent of the law. If he is convicted and is subsequently killed in prison by a 300-pound ex-Army convict named Brutus I won't lose a moment of sleep.
JP: There is a difference between reporting a story, and reporting it over and over again with updates, interviews, presidential statements, discussion round-tables, etc.
The media made a huge hoopla out of the killing of a late-term abortionist because they saw an opportunity to sling mud upon all pro-lifers.
They mentioned the murder of a US Soldier but downplayed the significant facts in the case.
Its well established that the media will cover both stories. Its HOW they cover it, how extensively, or how poorly, that illustrates their bias.
Did Obama make a statement on this act of terrorism on US soil? No. It was only one soldier to him...better to keep it on the down low. Yet he felt it necessary to speak about Tiller's murder. There is a bias, and it is palpable. It will be culpable as well if the response of the terrorists is to upscale their actions to get more attention.
"Thank you OP for a great post.
Skitzy and J_P: Yes it was reported on the first day, but they failed to mention the perp's name. Yet they plastered the perp's name that killed the abortion doctor on every single newscast. It is common practice for the liberal media not to mention a terrorists name, when he has committed a crime here in America. Start paying attention and you will realize that fact.
You guys really believe what you write about media bias, don't you? Amazing. Amazing because the media is business. They will focus on the stories the public wants to know about. On any other day Private Long's killing would have dominated the news. I don't suppose any of you remember November, 1978? 918 people died in Jonestown and elsewhere in Ghana - including a United States Congressman - on November 18. Just over a week later the mayor of San Francisco and a councilman were murdered in City Hall. News about these murders was sidelined by the developing story coming out of Ghana.
Which story was really the most newsworthy? People will disagree. But the quantity of media reporting at a national or regional level is primarily driven by what media businesses collectively think the public wants to hear, right or wrong. One particular source may favor one story versus another but overall the balance will be a reflection on what consumers want.
For example, Fox News had this story featured on its home page just a moment ago:
"Twenty UFOs Spotted Flying in Formation Over England
Thursday, June 04, 2009
Stunned families watched as more than 20 UFOs buzzed over awestruck Britain Sunday"
There was nothing about the killing of Private William Long on the Fox News home page, however. Not one word.
"You guys really believe what you write about media bias, don't you? Amazing. Amazing because the media is business. They will focus on the stories the public wants to know about."
Exactly...look who owns the media, and follow the money.......its entertainment, not news anymore.
Not a word on Drudge report either. Hardly a mouthpiece of liberal media.........................................
Folks,
The guy was recruited in prison by an Islamic cleric operating within the system.
The guy traveled to Yemen under a Somali passport. Where/How did he get it.
The guy trained in Yemen with the objective of returning to the USA as a sleeper cell.
The guy had plans that included preschools, synagogues, churches, shopping centers.
And you think this is not news.
You must think he is just one in a million and we do not have to worry about it any further, right?
As for the mentally ill guy who killed the abortion doctor... He *WAS* a one in a million case and we really do not have to worry about it.
We have had two cases in the last month of sleeper cells activating. One was busted by the FBI in process, the other executed a soldier and wounded another.
We are still at war whether you want to realize it, accept it, or not.
Relax and head on over to the Galleria this weekend. Keep your eyes open.
Relax and send your kids to school. They are safe.
There are no more sleeper cells out there. Osama did not send a message today. Its all just paranoia.
On the New York Post,....
Arkansas shooter may have had NY targets ............
Source: Arnkansas shooting suspect searched targeted sites on Google..............
Physician friend of slain abortion Doctor wants to continue mission..................................
O_P,
It is news, and I heard about it the day it happened on what you would call the Liberal media. Please answer my earlier question: Do you know the liberal media isn't reporting on this story because you listen to the liberal media, or is conservative media telling you that the liberal media is not reporting on this story?
Obama is getting standing ovations in the Middle East due to what he is saying and hopefully what his actions will be. Does any rational thinking person actually believe that will make the U.S. less safe? Or should he have said to them, if you're not with us then you're against us?
Oh the irony...........
OP states "They can turn a blind eye to a soldier being killed, but they are feeding the enemy. The enemy will decide they need to make a bigger statement to get the press. Prepare for 9/11 part deux. They will not stop just because the media ignores them. "
Interestingly enough, the Bush Administration did ignore the enemy (Al Quaida) for the first nine months of his administration, despite multiple warning from the CIA. Clarke, five days into the Bush Administration scheduled time with Condi to review the Al Quaida threat, and was rebuffed. A month before the attach, President Bush was briefed with Bin Laden's desire to attack public targets, possibly with aircraft. A week prior to 9-11, Bush's staff was briefed that an imminent threat may occur. No special actions authorized by Bush or his staff. No code Red, no Defcon 2, basically squat. Too pre-occupied with a sweetheart deal on energy policy for Oil Companies. Too preoccupied with Bizzillions in bonehead tax cuts.
Bushco, was caught asleep at the switch, and thousands died needlessly. Since then, we've given Al Quaida multiple opportunities to kill Americans since we have thousands of American soldiers and contractors in Al Quaida's back yard. Many more thousands of Americans have died needlessly. Instead of going into Iraq, we shouldn't have finished the job in Afgahnistan/Pakistan.
We won't have 911-two, because the Three Stooges (Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld) are out of office. That doesn't mean Al Quaida will not still plot to attack us, but the days of arrogance and incompetance are over.
One thing is obvious. Facts will never get in the way of statements like these:
* "The media has decided that if they don't tell you about a terrorist attack on our soil, it did not happen"
* "The media has downplayed this story"
* "The liberal media is just interested in reporting news that fit their agenda"
* "Its well established that the media will cover both stories. Its HOW they cover it, how extensively, or how poorly, that illustrates their bias."
* "It is common practice for the liberal media not to mention a terrorists name, when he has committed a crime here in America"
These are definitive statements: "media has decided" "media has downplayed" "media is just interested" "media will cover" "common practice...for media...to mention".
Yet none - NOT ONE - of these statements is supported by facts. These are simply opinions, stated as facts.
As usual.
0_P,
Better go take a laxative.
The Department of Homeland Security defines terrorists / extremists to include "...rightwing groups or individuals who can be broadly divided into those who are primarily hate-oriented... This term also may refer to right-wing extremist movements that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration." (see: World Net Daily, April 12, 2009 - "Homeland Security on guard for right-wing extremists). Please take note that DHS' definition does not require fake passports, foreign training or a list of future attacks. (DHS Memo (U//FOUO) "Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment." 7 April 2009)
There is also no legal definition that equates abortion with "murder". Caught you again.

Only FOUR times the level of coverage for an abortionist who took the young children, removed their arms, legs and heads, and then pulled the corpse out and threw it into a garbage disposal.
Only ONE FOURTH the level of coverage for an American Soldier being gunned down by a prison-recruited, Yemen trained Islamic terrorist.

I looked for an editorial by the NY Times, LA Times, Washington Post on this subject, could not find one. Thus, I had to go to the Right Wing Media who must be telling me that the Left Wing Media is not covering the story....
Finally: Obama’s limp statement on the jihadi attack in Arkansas
By Michelle Malkin • June 3, 2009 09:30 PM
The White House finally got around to releasing a statement on the jihadi attack against our troops at the Arkansas military recruitment center.
Here is the entire statement:
“I am deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence against two brave young soldiers who were doing their part to strengthen our armed forces and keep our country safe. I would like to wish Quinton Ezeagwula a speedy recovery, and to offer my condolences and prayers to William Long’s family as they mourn the loss of their son.”
“Senseless?” It made perfectly good sense to a vengeful Muslim convert jihadi bent on “killing as many people in the Army as he could.”
For contrast, here is Obama’s full statement on the Tiller murder, issued just hours after the shooting:
I am shocked and outraged by the murder of Dr. George Tiller as he attended church services this morning. However profound our differences as Americans over difficult issues such as abortion, they cannot be resolved by heinous acts of violence.
http://michellemalkin.com/2009/06/03/finally-obamas-limp-statement-on-the-jihadi-attack-in-arkansas/
O_P,
The right wing media is telling you Obama made a limp statement. Seriously O_P, I heard a lot of in depth analysis on both murders. Normal people seem equally distraught about both cases, except the right wingers who seem to care more about the media coverage than the murders themselves.
O_P,
Pvt. Long was killed by a religious fanatic in an act of domestic terrorism. Dr. Tiller was also killed by a religious fanatic in an act of domestic terrorism. Presumably, the news media evaluated both stories for "newsworthiness" and decided to emphasize the Dr. Tiller abortionist-murder story because would sell more subscriptions (reporting news IS, after all, a business). Are you against the American free enterprise system?
What's your point?
The media do not have a liberal bias. Conservatives admit it (when they're being honest).
The Most Biased Name in News, Seth Ackerman, Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting, August 2001:
“Years ago, Republican party chair Rich Bond explained that conservatives' frequent denunciations of ‘liberal bias’ in the media were part of ‘a strategy’ (Washington Post, 8/20/92). Comparing journalists to referees in a sports match, Bond explained: ‘If you watch any great coach, what they try to do is “work the refs.” Maybe the ref will cut you a little slack next time.’”
The Liberal Media, RIP, Eric Alterman, The Nation, March 13, 2000:
“Bill Kristol, perhaps the most honest and intelligent conservative in Washington (excluding, of course, that funny, friendly, charming McCain fellow). ‘The press isn't quite as biased and liberal. They're actually conservative sometimes,’ Kristol said recently on CNN. If Chris missed that one, he might have come across a similar admission by Kristol offered up in the spring of 1995. ‘I admit it,’ Kristol told The New Yorker. ‘The whole idea of the 'liberal media' was often used as an excuse by conservatives for conservative failures.’”
Spinning Populism In American News Media, Norman Solomon, Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting, undated:
“‘The truth is, I've gotten fairer, more comprehensive coverage of my ideas than I ever imagined I would receive,’ [Patrick] Buchanan acknowledged in March 1996. He added: ‘I've gotten balanced coverage and broad coverage -- all we could have asked.’”
The "liberal media" is controlled by such "liberal" corporations as General Electric, Fox, Time-Warner and Viacom and they are controlled by bleeding-heart liberals as Roger Ailes
The same people who say that Fox News is biased conservatively, deny that MSNBC, CNN, NBC, CBS are biased. Right!
The real story is not "religious fanatic in an act of domestic terrorism" in both cases. One of them trained outside the USA.
The real story is there are probably a lot more sleepers getting ready to awaken as Obama attempts to take over the US economy and ignores them. While Obama figures out what models GM should bring out next year, someone is probably going to pop off a dirty bomb in NYC and render our economy a huge smoking radioactive hole.
One story a case of a crazed religious fanatic that only endangered late-term abortionists.
One story, a small example of a much larger problem that was put down to avoid implicating the negligence of "The Messiah".
Your posts get nuttier and nuttier every day. You are suffering from Obama Derangement Syndrome. How sad.
