This is frustrating
I work on computers for individuals and small to medium sized businesses on the side. Last week I posted an ad on Craigslist for cheap computer help if anyone needed it. On wed I get this back.
"Hello,How you doing? My name is Steve,PA and right now i work inLas Vegas,NV. I read your description and am interested in yourservices,I just brought some computers and they are are laptopsPentium 4 dell computer ..i want you to Install software such asMicrosoft Office and Antivirus, clean inner & outer computercomponents, update software to current status, fix software: MSSQL,PHP, MySQL, HTML, JavaScript.Get back to me with you total cost forthe services of eight computer excluding the shipping cost cus i havea shipper that will come with the computers and the necessarySoftwares to you.I await your urgent response so that i can put thearrangement in order"
I am thinking Scam yes, but I will play along. I replied with a bid of 50-75 dollars per computer depending on the software and condition of the laptops. I am still thinking it is a scam but not sure what or how they are going to go about getting whatever they want. Friday I get the following from my reply:
"Hello ,Thanks for the reply. I am okay with the price. However, based onyour mail . I will instruct my client to forward YOu a check of about$2500. Please i will need your FULL NAME and FULL ADDRESS be itresidential..and Your PHONE # so as to prepare the check and shipping of the computer to your address. i have a reliable shipper that willpickup the PC's when you are done.I am looking forward to hear from you. Thanks"
So I responded with my PO Box and phone number. I know it is a scam so that is why I am not giving a whole lot of info to this scum. I am still not sure what the scam is. Yes if I do get a check in the mail or laptops I do plan on calling the authorities and have it all checked out.
My frustration is, why can't people, even though we all are on hard times, do things honestly and work for what they get. I keep wondering how many people are really falling for this, whatever it may be. I am sure I will find out soon. I know that many of you get this crap and just let it go but it is getting worse. We need to start letting these lowlife poop scoopers know that it is wrong and they will get nailed for it. I know there is no budget money to set up task forces to go after these @#$%^& people but something has to be done.
Any thoughts or Idea's? I will post whatever happens with this situation as it unfolds.

next they will send you a money order for more than the owe. They will ask you to deposit the money orders and send them back the excess. The money orders will look real, but they are not. If you deposit them and take money out of your account to send the excess back to the scammer, you will lose the full amount, as the money orders are worthless.
We went through this and when I called law enforcement they said that the scammers are off-shore and out of U.S, jurisdiction. Don't fall for any of it. Good luck.
Thank you for the feed back. I do not plan to deposit anything at all from them. I just wish that there were a way to nail the scum.
For your own satisfaction you could see how long you can lead them along before they give up on you. If you document it, It might make a good even funny article, which you could then sell.... I share your frustration with these kinds of things. Also credit card fraud. Someone stole our number, created a fake card, went on a spending spree in So Cal. Local law enforcement wasn't interested in taking a report on that either. sigh.
Ok. Update.
Today I got an Extremely Urgent UPS envelope. All it had was a check made to me for $2500.00 from Bank of America. Check was drawn from a company in Floridia. Looked up the company and it is real. Called to verify funds and the account is not valid.
Package says it was sent from Phoenix, AZ but tracking says it came from Nebraska.
So my question to all of you. What should I do next?
There is nothing you can do, really. You could call local law enforcement and insist they take a report, but the scammers are off shore and safe, most likely. Justice will not prevail in this case. Sorry. If it gives you comfort, know that you are in good conpany.
