Report on Bowhunting

This report summarizes twenty-four studies on bowhunting from across the country. The facts in these studies show clearly that bowhunting is inhumane and wasteful. The possibility of a deer

being impaled by a broadhead arrow and then dying instantaneously is extremely slight.

Wounding and crippling losses are inevitable. Every one of these studies has concluded that for every deer legally killed by bowhunters, at least one or more is struck by a broadhead arrow, wounded, and not recovered. The studies indicate an average bowhunting wounding rate of 54%, with the

shots per kill averaging 14. We believe that these numbers are conservative.

The Wounding Cover-up

Bowhunting journals make it clear that they do not want bowhunters speaking to anyone

about wounding. Their editorials even suggest that bowhunters should underestimate

their losses:

Bowhunter Magazine

An article entitled Bow Wounding Losses THE BIG MYTH by David Samuel states: It is disquieting to know that we probably wound one deer for every animal harvested. Samuel also states: The only reason I can think of is that bowhunting is difficult, more so than gun hunting. Some non-thinking

bowhunters apparently feel its better to say that they at least hit a deer than admit they didnt harvest one. Thats really dumb logic and every time someone says they wound a deer to anyone else, even a bowhunter friend, it gives the wrong message to anyone who is listening.

Bowhunter 1989 Big Game Issue

An article entitled A Call for Accuracy by Dwight Schuh states: Our sport cant

stand forever in the face of growing hatred. Archers must work to counteract that

sentiment and build bowhunting in a positive light. The first step should be

obvious. Dont brag about hitting and losing animals. He goes on to say,

Theres nothing honorable about hitting and losing an animal; it just means you

screwed up. Dont brag about it. Just shut up.

There are many sites to show how to track a wounded deer because bowhunted animals death is never "quick".

Tracking A Bow Shot Deer

(and gun shot also)

Read what they wrote here from "tracking wounded whitetail deer" site. All they care about is to salvage the trophy not about the pain and suffering of the deer.

"Recently in Pike County, Illinois a deer hunter I know shot a nice 150 class buck which folded and fell to the ground within visual site of his tree stand. When this happens the whitetail hunter needs to remain quiet and watch the deer to see his reactions. This particular deer lived for many hours and would lift his head on occasions quite groggy but was just a tough animal and refused to give up. In a scenario such as this the hunter has to just sit in the stand and wait until he believes the deer is dead. Dont get down from the stand and approach the animal to get another shot quickly. Let nature take its course or your running the risk of losing your trophy whitetail deer. Years ago, early in my whitetail career I shot a buck and watched him fall to the ground only 50 yards from my position. I got excited and climbed down out of the tree to go look at him. When I got to him he was gone and never was found. I was impatient and paid the price dearly. As a general rule let the deer lay up and die.

"let the deer lay up and die"

"just a tough animal and refused to give up"

"just sit in the stand and wait until he believes the deer is dead. "

"Let nature take its course or your running the risk of losing your trophy whitetail deer"

Deer Vehicle Accident doubled in the past 15 years and those states listed has the most 'hunters' .

Thanks for exposing the cruel aspects of bowhunting. I still don't get how people think this "sport" is appealing unless they really enjoy watching suffering.

I never understand how people think that killing an innocent sentient being that capable of suffering and do have interest in living is a "sport" and of course they try to covers their disgusting act of killing with pretty names like "taken", "harvest" and "humanely placed shot" which there never is in bowhunting, maybe 1%. In shotgun I have seen videos of animals wounded and thrashing on forest ground in pain, but nothing like the video I have seen of bowhunting. Overall the sadism done to our innocent sentient being for "sports" should be totally abolished and I am so sick and tired of their excuse of "conservation", wildlife management", "true hunters", "humane kill", "pittman and rogers", "tradition", etc, they are all hogwash!

Hey CarolineTC, ya know that if our ancestors were not hunters and gathers we probably would not be here today. They used spears: sticks , rocks, dead falls or trap pits, made nets out of vairous forms of plant material to catch fish and so on and so onto kill animals for food in order to survive. I do not condone Bow Hunting as I do not Bow Hunt myself.

But please remember every time you eat a vegatable you are killing a living thing... only you/we can not hear or see it's suffering or death.

Our ancestors hunted for survival and some still do which is not my concern, my concern is killing animals for "sports" and trophy and luring young innocent children to do the same. Plus deer vehicle accidents are on the rise because of hunting , how many more innocent victims (human and non-human) have die as the result of recreational hunting.? Do you know that kids are being injured and killed because adult hunters want to bring their children in the world of slaughtering living creature? By the way, please don't make a fool of yourself with the old "veggie scream" , that is so played out.

Luring young innocent children Caroline? You make them sound like child molesters. To take a page from the liberal playbook Caroline, if you don't like to bowhunt, then don't go do it.

I don't like bowhunting because of the pain and suffering done to our sentient animals for "sports" and trophy. If bowhunting involved an shooting an a object or if hunters were shooting each other I would just move on with a smile but its done to a innocent life who do not deserve what is happening to them. If you do not want to be shot at with an arrow to drown in your own blood, or die in your own poison then why would you want it done to the animals. ?

CarolineTC, I could say the same of abortion. If you didn't get the quote, which apparently you did not. I don't like abortion because of the pain and destruction of HUMAN life. I would just move on, but it's done to an innocent life who does not deserve what's happening to them. If you don't want to be torn apart by a vacuum, or have your brain pierced after being partially born, then why would you do it to a child?

I was simply making a parallel and using a common liberal line to highlight the absurdity of it. You know the one, "If you don't like abortion then don't have one?" Thank you for pointing out how silly that line is, even if it wasn't intentional.

What does abortion have to do with subject of bowhunting. ? I just love the hypocrisy of pro-life hunters who just don't the fact that animal too are life so in actuality you are no "pro-life" you are hypocrite. I like to also ask you what you have done for children that is here today and of the babies born, the crack addicted babies, babies born handicapped, deformed, mentally disabled, anger issues? How about children living with abusive parents pimping their children for prostiution? HOw about the childen who end up turning to gang to find families because they never had one like mexican gangs who would kill anyone who gets in their way because they too were once unborn baby who were not wanted. What are you going to do about the millions of children then will soon turn to the streets, gangs, drugs etc maybe even come to your home to rob and kill you? Can you please explain to me? Seems to me like you could refute my argument so you turn to the subject of abortion so now its your turn to tell me your vision of being a "pro-lifer" and what you will do for all the unwanted babies, children and teens of the world?

Correction: Seems to me like you "couldn't" refute my argument and also "have " the fact. Well time for bed lol. and please feel free to answer my question about abortion.

Comparing human life with animal life is absurd to the extreme. How can you compare a deer with a person? Is human life so cheap to you? I suspect very few people would draw the same parallels you have made here. That's why bow hunting does not evoke outrage (or even much interest), but if people were hunting kids with bows people would go berserk (and rightfully so!).

I don't care enough to comment on the deer issue, so I brought up the parallel between bow hunting and abortion to illustrate the hypocrisy of the liberal. Deer we save, kids we kill.

Frankly, my abortion comment was more about liberal hypocrisy than about abortion itself. It only morphed into a true discussion about abortion when you focused so intently on the abortion issue instead of what I was really trying to point out.

I find it difficult to rationalize your opinion that children should be terminated because they might not live a life you find worthwhile or a future you deem good enough. Where do you draw the line? How do you decide which life is worth living and which should be stopped from proceeding before it even has a chance to flourish?

Please, please check you grammar and fix the run on sentences before you post. I had to read you post several times to decipher what you were saying.

CarolineTC, since you assume I must be a pro-life hunter, and thus a hypocrite (you know what the say about making assumptions, lol), I should say I don't bow hunt deer or anything else, but I might give it a try now. Seems like a challenge. I see bows are on sale at Cabela's. Anyone want to carpool to Reno to buy a bow? It would lessen our carbon foot print if we make it a group trip. Maybe someone with a Prius can volunteer to drive.

LOL, Realist, I think you’ve figured out what you’re dealing with by now. Her assumptions are so absurd. The deer/auto collisions have nothing to do with hunting. She is obviously a very uneducated individual with the propensity to believe what fits here desired reality.

Realist, I think you know exactly what I was saying in my comment but like most recreational hunters they try to twist my words to satisfy their own agenda. First of all , "pro-life" is ALL LIFE for animals are life too and your rambling just goes to show you do nothing for any babies or children which is typical of "pro-life" people who pick and choose whose life if worthy. Human and non-animals share suffering, all life that are capable of suffering is deserve to be free from harm and death.

About bowhunting and outrage yes there are so many outrage right now especially now that we have things like youtube where people are seeing that bowhunters can do to animals and there is nothing more sickening then human who shoot an arrow into a living sentient being for sports and trophy. Bowhunters been lying long enough about "quick and humane death" which has been a lie because you know according to bowhunters manual you have to wait at least 30-45 minutes before tracking deer because that is a minimum of how long it takes for the animals to die. Plus bowhuntng is not about "reducing" deer population, "conservation" "wildlife management" "reducing deer vehicle accidents" etc etc. All a sham and excuses to cover their evils and justify their disgusting actions.

Its good to know beside youtube that this video is getting lots of exposures and I hope the public are learning the ugly reality of bowhunting.

We’re learning how ridiculous and dishonest you anti-hunters are, not to mention uneducated. Even many from the left side of the political spectrum have commented on how absurd your assertions and personal attacks are. All you have is rhetoric.

Why is it that anytime one visit a "deer management" website ( I guess they think public do not pay attention) but you see the word "production" "provided" "fawn recruits", "fawn crops" ? Here is one of the many comment I have found from several "deer management" "site where you see comment such as this from a Texas "buck manager" website

"Thus, late fall up to early winter is very important for deer herd managers to impact and influence fawn production, so make sure the plant communities on your property is properly managed deer habitat. "

"The number of new deer added to the pre-hunt population is a function of the number of fawns born and their survival until until the fall...."A large number of does that are nutritionally stressed will not raise as many fawns to be added will not raise as many fawns to be added to the fall population as a lesser number of healthy does."

Here is one from PA. Game commission.

"thus maintaining a maximum breeding base -- will assure large numbers of antlered bucks because terrific numbers of deer will be born each year and button bucks wouldn't be harvested. a smaller herd in balance with its habitat can produce as many fawns as an oversized herd on poor range. Does have fewer young when habitat quality is lacking."

Meaning mass killing does help to produce more fawn plus hunting organization enhance deer herd growth with supplement feeding and food plots and also killing deer natural predator.

They even encourage supplement feeding for herd growth and of course antler growth.

"Deer managers agree that supplemental feeding, whether it be protein pellets, whole cotton seed, or some other type of high-protein food, really helps local deer populations."

"Individual deer health is important for maintaining body mass, promoting maximum antler growth in bucks, and optimal milk production in does."

"Managing for proper nutrition in white-tailed deer is important for good body condition, good fawn production and recruitment, and maximum antler growth. Good nutrition can be accomplished by doing three things that involve proper habitat management, supplemental feeding, and the planting of food plots."

Did you know this can spread CWD? What a hypocrite!

Well at least your writing is slightly better Carol, even if your rhetoric isn't. Since your most incoherent post was late on the 4th of July, I can assume you slept it off? lol

By the way, Pro-life isn't about deer, it's about people. I don't know why you keep insisting on putting the two on the same level. They aren't. Not even close. Just because they look cuddly to you doesn't make them the equal of humans. I think that is the most important point you aren't getting.

Because of you I did actually go and buy a bow today. A nice camouflage compound bow. You piqued my interest you know. The dealer said I had enough arm strength to get a bow capable of deep penetration to make a quick kill. The biggest problem with wounding deer vs. an outright kill is the power of the bow. Many people buy bows too weak for their purpose. I have not yet killed a deer, but I have eaten some and it was good. Now I just have to get a few deer tags and have at it. Because I'm disabled the State told me I can hunt from my car. I don't even have to get out! I guess I didn't even need the camo bow!

I've been practicing and can hit my beer cans from the window of my pick-up. I should be good to go since deer are bigger. Well the young ones aren't, but I was told they taste better. I'll let you know how it goes. Maybe I can post some pictures when deer season opens up! Wish me luck!!!

Realist comment is a dime a dozen. Wildlife serial killers like to say "because of you" or the "im gonna's" such as "Im gonna gut shot a deer just for ya and let it suffer, thanks " or "I will nail a bear bladder on your door step, thanks " with a drawing of a smiley. Here is an example that I got recently.

"oh yea....i just bought my first bow for deer hunting! september cant get here fast enough! im a pretty bad shot right now though....hope i dont wound one and leave it to suffer ;)" <<<< notice the smiley that hunters love to mock those who love our animals and the comment is right here if you think I made it up.

http://www.youtube.com/user/ALLdeersgo2heaven

So many low life scums get hunting license so they can use animals as a "get back" to anti-hunters or to society in general.

You get mocked for your "unusual" perspectives and poor reasoning (and poor grammar, opps I did it again). At least you recognize when you are being mocked. I wouldn't have guessed you would have. Frankly, I was ridiculing the stereotypes you buy into. I'm sure that accepting those stereotypes makes it easier to come to the conclusions you so desperately need to validate. So much for the scientific process. Regardless if I agreed with all you opinions wholeheartedly or am diametrically opposed to everything you state, how you get to your end opinion is one scary ride. You twist "facts" to meet the end conclusion your emotions tell you to come to. You seem incapable to debate your side without hysteria. And it is painfully obvious to those that read what you write. And that is why you are so frequently mocked.

This came from anti-republican joke page

The Rules of Conservative Correctness (I am only posting a few)

4) if you cannot rebut the argument pick on details such as

misspellings, improper punctuation or taglines.

5) If your opponent has an unrefutable argument, change the subject.

7) anyone who puts life over profits is a "tree hugger."

Realist, you just do not want to hear the truth but too bad the truth will continue to be told.

Did you just ignore everything I said? See rule #5.

"You get mocked for your "unusual" perspectives and poor reasoning (and poor grammar, opps I did it again)."

I was replying to that and your opinions means nothing me, just another heartless humans with loads of excuses. At least I know people are watching the video and that is whats important.

http://my.auburnjournal.com/detail/119712.html

It’s even better, however, when you totally blow the anti-hunters away with facts AND get to point out how uneducated and stupid they really are. LOL

You have absolutely no life what so ever do you Patrick50?
