Buzz Worms! Don't try this without a a wall in front of you...
My 4th was spent touring the Wildermuth House in Campo Seco area and when walking in the back yard saw this creature on the other side of the wall. It started towards me when the camera clicked so I snapped a few quick shots with a loooooong telephoto lens, then retreated. Just a reminder, rattlesnakes are out on the trails and this is their natural habitat. Caution is advised wherever you hike, bike, or ride in the foothills and mountains. Be aware, but please... do not destroy.

Did you know that you can take rattlesnakes, barbeque them with a weber, and then smear them with BBQ sauce?
They taste like a chicken back. White meat, really tasty.
The skins make nice belts, hat bands, and ornamental material.
I agree that people should not destroy them. Kill, eat, use the skins? Sure...but don't destroy them.
Looks like a big one to me.
Two of the last three times I walked Stage Coach trail I nealy stepped on rattlesnakes. I stopped and took pictures with my cell phone of each one. The first was dusty and hard to see in the sun. The second looked freshly peeled and dark. Hard to see in the shade especially since I was wearing my sunglasses. Both times I stopped with my foot hovering over their backs and each was around 3 feet long. I am basically a city girl but there is no mistaking the rattlers with their distinctive buttons. Reminds me of thick, fungus infected toenails. How would someone else discribes their color and texture?
I'm with you YS!!!! When in doubt, TAKE 'EM OUT!
