I live in MIddletown, New Jersey and my pet beagle was gored by a deer this last November. The antlers ripped my dogs stomach wide open, her pacreas were outside her stomach and her intestines were dragging on the ground. Obviously we had to put her to sleep, surgery was an option but would be massive and exploratory with no guarantees.

PS. Please do not try feeding antlered deer especially during later summer and early fall. They are a little more aggressive but these deer I known since they were babies so was safe for me.

i am aware deer can be friendly. i rescued a 3 legged fawn and kept her for two years before releasing her. Here's the difference between you and me....i know what i'm doing. I wanted to be able to return this deer to the wild with all her instincts still in tact. I kept her in a fenced in rye grass field. there were hardwoods in the pasture so she could eat acorns. I also made a little plot of soybeans for her. I didn't just throw food out on the damn ground. the fence was not tall but she couldn't jump it. However, other deer would come to feed with her and they would play. i could have fed her out of my hand but i chose not too. i would only pet her and give her a treat when i was checking her leg. a buck was able to mate with her and when she gave birth to her baby girl; i opened the gate to pasture. It took her about 2 weeks before she would leave.

I do not think deer are dangerous. I was mocking you with that earlier post. Deer are wild and wild animals unpredictable.

I'm done messing with you, caroline. You and i definitely do not agree on the hunting issue. We both love deer. I understand the feeling of awe you get by feeding and being that close to deer. Most people never get to see deer up close and very few have had deer eat out of their hand. Junker its a very pretty story but you kill these beautiful innocent animals for "sport". If you really love and respect deer and wildlife you fight with every bone in your body to keep them free from harm and death. I would never want a living being that I so love and respect to be hurt or to suffer and die especially from what happens in bowhunting and all in the name of recreation.
