49er Kickin Chickens No Losses in Fort Bragg Tourney
Only in soccer is it possible to have no losses in four games, and come in 3rd place for a Tournament.
The U14 Kickin Chickens ended on an upswing this last Sunday afternoon in Fort Bragg at the Girls "Spookfest" Soccer Tournament. In the consolation game the Chickens had total control of the contest when a ball went over the end line near their goal, no whistle, then the ball was laid back to center and the Petaluma Freeze were up 1-0. Goalie T-Rex said after the game, "That ball was definitely over the line. I had no chance to stop that shot going to the far post." The good news is, the goal only seemed to jolt the Chickens to life. Less than a minute later Squirt had an assist to Speedy and we were all tied. Special B bombed a 30 yard shot into the net seconds before halftime and the Chickens were up 2-1 at half. Squirt and Dunn-Dunn added insurance goals in the 2nd half and the Petaluma Freeze went home knowing that they were outmatched. "We were faster, and more physical," said Libby "Bolt" Runte.
The road to the consolation game was full of dominating defense as the Kickin Chickens; anchored by Amy Heyn at sweeper and T-Rex at goalie did not allow a goal in all 3 matches! All of our defenders (Lauren, Sarah T, Sarah H, Michelle, LaLa, Halle, Thunder, Sam) can take pride in the fact that in 16 tournament games they have only given up 2 goals in regulation. That is DEFENSE!
Congratulations Chickens on another quality showing, just remember.....if you ever get another shot at Eel River, make them feel lucky they were able to tie your team.
