A few have principles.
It’s heartening to see some elected representatives actually stand up for what they believe in, and for the best interest of their constituents. Nicole Parra did it last year during the CA budget battle. She voted for what her constituents wanted her to do. She voted against her Party who punished her by throwing her out of her Assembly office and exiling her to one across the street with Assembly staffers.
Recently, Joe Liebermann indicated he would do it during the Health Care debate. His constituents aren’t in favor of the “public option” so he indicated that when it comes to a final vote, if the “public option” is still there, he will vote against it.
Here are two examples of people with principles. They vote for their constituents wishes, not just the Party line. Democrat or Republican, people in Congress are elected by their constituents to do what is best for them. Too often politicians vote for their Party, their Party ideology, or the desires of special interests, and the wants and needs of “Joe Citizen Taxpayer” are ignored.
Let’s hope that this starts a “pandemic” of politicians voting for their constituents and for their principles. This might actually lead to some real bipartisanship and a Congressional approval rating over 25%.
