The internet is such a wonderful thing in that it allows us to share information, get to know our neighbors...Happy Birthday internet
Nice! Nine years later the GOP lies about the competition are still in peoples heads... and McCain has illegitimate children too right? The Bush lies just have a life of their own.
Al Gore was responsible for using American tax dollars to fund the expansion of the internet and make it available to everyday tax payers. At that time, Republicans would rather have spent that tax money on tanks and corporate welfare. Now the GOP wants to give control to internet service providers (who our taxes funded) and let them give priority to certain web content. Democrats prefer net neutrality to make every communication over the internet no less important than any other.
Lonewolf: I would expect this from some yoyos around here but not from you.
2049er: Can you name a internet service provider that our taxes fund? As I am pretty sure that all of us PAY for our internet service, cause if my taxes are providing this service then I want my internet service to be free.
Democrats prefer net neutrality...LOL it is the democrats who want to apply a internet sales tax and it is the democrats who have been pushing the Fairness Doctrine for radio and T.V. stations. so where is the dem's fairness?
chase2you: it's called tax breaks and incentives. There's plenty of dial up services that are free and get you on the internet. You want everything handed to you?
Using your logic, the oil that is drilled in our land and off our coast should be free to us to then.
I wouldn't expect you to educate yourself on this, but in case you want a tiny bit of truth in your lives, go to Wikipedia and search for "High performance computing and communications act of 1991"
From now on, every time you use the internet you can thank Al Gore for using our tax dollars on "we the people."
lonewolf: One more of the huge lies coming from the Right...Al Gore never claimed to have invented the internet....please offer the exact quote..after all, it is the internet...you should be able to track it down.
Before Al Gore's legislative push wasn't a limited version at use in the Pentagon? I think it was called Intranet. Or at least that is what it is called now.
The 'net moved the world out of the dark ages. Some would prefer to drag us back.
Happy Birthday Internet.
“The most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly - it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over”
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it... It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie and thus, by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”
(The Nazi extreme right was violently anti-intellectual) ~~ Reichsminister JOSEF GOEBBELS, Nazi Germany's minister of propaganda (1933 to 1945).
The Gore lie explained:
http://www.snopes.com/quotes/internet.asp
Dick Armey created the phony Al Gore quote. Armey's deceptive wording was picked up by the media, and combined with the stories that Gore claimed to have discovered Love Canal (also phony), or that he said he had inspired 'Love Story' (phony, too) to produce the idea that Gore was an obsessive liar. Armey is the current Chairman of FreedomWorks, which uses corporate funding to create the Teabagger movement's ersatz "protests."
In 1989, Gore authored the National High-Performance Computer Technology Act. Signed by Bush, Gore's bill supported research and development for a national computer system and helped colleges and libraries connect to the new computer inter-network.
In 1989, when few public officials grasped the profound changes that the new linked-computer information technology would bring, Gore saw them plainly. "I genuinely believe that the creation of this nationwide network will create an environment where work stations are common in homes and even small businesses," he predicted to a House committee in 1989.
The actual Al Gore quote is: "'During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the internet." He said it during an interview with Wolf Blitzer.
2049er, 'You want everything handed to you', sure is that not the democratic way?... Oil drilled on our land, nope just pay the cost for drilling, refining, delivery fee's to the businesses that provide that service. And get rid of the most expensive cost of a gallon of gas or diesel, which is Federal and State Taxes. Get rid of those two taxes and our gas would be close to 1 dollar and a half a gallon not three dollars a gallon.
chase2you: you make it sound as if Democrats are responsible for all the taxes that you and I pay. I agree, let's get rid of all the taxes and then the rich can pay for the wars we fight to protect their interests.
Did you thank Al Gore for your affordable internet connection yet? If it was up to the Republicans you would still be in the dark, is that not the Republican way? (as demonstrated by this blog)... and Business would be the only place where you could get an internet connection. Oh but how would you ever get all those obamanation e-mails your swift-boater friends are sending you?
Wow... lot more input than I expected... I am happy we have it.... Sorry Al (wink wink) didn't mean to make a lil fun of ya and get some ppl all irked! I forget some take issues more serious than I.
2049er: Sometimes I just have to laugh at your posts. No I have not thanked Al, don't need to. And who says 50 plus dollars a month is affoardable internet service? BTW: How is this Obananation working for you? Other than increasing our national debt can's say much has changed, but on a bright note higher taxes are soon to come our way :)
You have not seen anything yet! The cost of living is going to go way up!!!!!!
Pelosi really made me feel warm and fuzzy all over today with her announcement that she has all the answers on health care with 96% coverage and it isn't going to cost us anything. Wow, what a lady. Repeat something often enough and people will soon believe the myth to be true.
Oh yes, the GDP grew by over 3%, first time in a long time that it has grown, part of it (1.8%) was the clunker bill that cost each of us that pay taxes hundreds of $$, in fact it cost *$24,000 for each vehicle that was bought back by our government. During the same time unemployment grew at a similar rate as the increas in GDP, wow we are really on a roll!
Ya gotta Love them demopubs and the mainstream media.
*The government's "Cash for Clunkers" program may have only added 125,000 vehicle sales, according to Edmunds.com, which said the rest of the units sold would have happened regardless of the program.
In total, the car-shopping Web site said about 690,000 vehicles were sold during the program. Edmunds.com said that based on the actual sales gained from the program, the Cash for Clunkers program cost taxpayers $24,000 per vehicle sold."
2049er,
I hope the Republicans continue to oppose net neutrality. They will soon find the party devoid of anyone under the age of 60.
Al Gore invented the internet .................. your kidding right?
Thank you chase2you. I'm glad you laughed, that was part of my intention. And thank you for your concern. Things are going great for me. I feel confident that there won't be a manufactured energy crisis this winter and the Democrats wouldn't let them get away with it. Propane will be cheap this winter! I have a feeling that we're winding down on the Middle East wars a little. I could keep going but it's time to go to bed and get some restful sleep. Especially restful, now that I know Darth Cheney isn't at the helm.
BTW, yes fifty bucks is pretty expensive. Mine gets expensed. You should look into netzero. I've never tried it, but it's been around a while and it's free!

What Gore Really Said
Here's what Gore actually said, during an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer:
"During my service in the United States Congress I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system."
Now, for what Al Gore and Bill Clinton REALLY did...
They increased government spending and hyped up the "Information Superhighway" that led to massive investment in computer networking equipment. This massive investment created overnight millionaires as the stock market jumped onto the idea.
People were claiming that by 2002, billions of internet ports would be sold.
As reality came more and more obvious, investors started pulling their money out of those stocks. The economy collapsed as the "internet bubble" deflated. Remember that big unemployment surge?
When the government gets involved, too much money is spent and some people make out like bandits while others lose their jobs.
Yoyo, those problems were as a result of fraud. Many people jumped on the technology bandwagon and created companies that were full of BS and did not have the technology developed that they said they did. A failure of Congress to regulate. Enron spark a memory? People got the heebeegeebees and pulled out their money out of the stock market, causing good companies to go under too. If you remember, Congress was run by the likes of Doolittle back then.
Yo_Sam,
Are you sure you want to discuss raising taxes, government spending, bigger government and which party was the worst offender?
2049er: If the government said it was going to spend tens of billions on solar panel technology, within months there would be people investing in that technology so they could get a piece of the action. The investment would grow and grow and grow until one day when the government realized it could not actually raise the money, then the stocks on those companies would collapse.
Skeptic: You are really running on fumes lately. Nothing more intelligent to say?
Thanks for rating my posts as "intelligent," but I have no further comments at this time.
