Obama and the "Quagmire"
Apparently some words are deemed offensive. Lets hope "Quagmire" is deemed acceptable by those who control our speech.
What is a quagmire? Its something that draws you in, and then once you put your hands on it, you are stuck. The more you fight it, the harder you get stuck.
In my earlier post today, I pointed out that the heavy GOP wins in the governor races in New Jersey and Virginia, states that Obama won easily in 2008, were taken with large shifts in the "independent" vote.
This was a signal to Obama and the left that their focus on growing government, and socializing our health care system, is going the wrong way for most Americans.
Its understandable that Obama would try to grab onto the socialized health care "quagmire" because it grabbed his attention as an opportunity to become the greatest socialist president of all time. From Franklin Roosevelt to Lyndon Johnson, nobody could claim to take over 1/6 of our economy in a single swoop and he wanted to be the one.
The problem; He went straight for it. While our economy is crumbling, unemployment skyrocketing, and with a war on two fronts in which one was starting to become a serious problem, he chose to go after health care.
As my earlier post said, he would have been smart to solve the economy first, get employment on track, and then when everyone was happy and smiling, he could have rammed through his socialized medicine without much of a problem.
As I also pointed out, now that he is stuck to the "quagmire" with both hands and feet, the next thing to do is start looking for something to divert attention away from it.
Most likely, it will start off with playing specific cards from the deck. The ones that cause most people to get upset. I won't say which cards, because even saying which card might be deemed offensive.

BS.
Oh please Mr/Ms Censor... don't find this too offensive.. I realize now that there are "things we must not speak of".
chrishamm: careful..that is a might offensive term.
There are more Americans dying from lack of health care everyday, than military casualties in a year. Universal Health Care is vital to a well functioning society.
YS maybe you should show the map of the areas that went RED. It's insignificant.
Yosemite_Sam
You had to have known that term would be termed offensive. I just figured you wanted to see how many people you could get riled up before they yanked it.
smoking is a health care issue. Oh but wait, people that smoke are weak. No matter that the industry has been putting addictive agents in tobacco for years.
"the swings were anywhere from 10 points to 19 points." Really how about proving that? Oh and I don't accept BS as an answer.
Chuxx: Why has Obama not stopped the evil tobacco companies? He has a majority in both houses.
As for BS, you can find the data. Its there.
CA_04: I think the problem is that I do not think in such terms, so it was not obvious to me. I am thinking we need to come up with a new term that fits the circumstance. I did not write the story of Brer Rabbit and its actually a great story that tells a great lesson to those who care to open their ears and minds.
ChuxxR,
Remember, you are talking to a guy who lies regularly, has been duped by obvious hoaxes (Obama's cert), and can't tell fact from opinion (Mr. Nightingale's recent letter). Don't hold your breath waiting for his proof.
JP: You really have been nasty lately. Whats the matter, you can't play with the big people?
Virginia 2009 - Republicans win 59/41 (that is 18 ports JP)
Virginia 2008 - Obama won by 6 points.
Virginia Turnaround 24 points
New Jersey 2009 - GOP win 49/45 (that is 4 points JP)
New Jersey 2008 - Obama won by 57/42 (That is 15 points JP)
New Jersey Turnaround 19 points
BTW: Quotes found from various news sources:
Exit polls from the Nov. 3 elections showed the economy was the primary concern for the vast majority of voters as they turned out Democratic candidates for statewide office, with 89 percent of voters in New Jersey and 85 percent in Virginia saying they were worried about the direction of the nation’s economy.
The unemployment rate for October is expected to notch up to 9.9 percent on its way to punching through the 10 percent mark early next year, according to the median forecast of economists in a Bloomberg survey.
A 10 percent jobless rate would be the highest in 26 years, ensuring that the economy remains a top issue in the midterm Congressional elections next November, and a political headache for President Barack Obama.
chrishamm,
This post by Y_S is his opinion based on a set of data/facts and assumptions. I'm surprised that your less than stellar reply to the original post was so dismissive. I've read your replies before and they are usually based on some data/logic and then concluded with your opinion. I would urge you to do more to enhance your reply to this post - "BS" is curt, but beneath your usual response.

Just to keep things in perspective, here are some of the reasons taken from a statement by Barbara Boxer why we need health care reform.
Thank you for writing to me about pending health care reform legislation. I am committed to working with President Obama to ensure that Americans have access to high-quality, affordable healthcare that they can rely on. With the right legislation, I believe we can greatly improve care for our families while containing the growing costs of health care.
As the President made clear in his joint address to Congress, the status quo is unsustainable. Too many of our fellow citizens are suffering because of the broken promises of a health insurance system that abandoned them when they needed it most.
Americans will spend over $2.5 trillion on health care this year, more than one in every six dollars in the U.S. economy. In all, we spend twice as much per person on health care as other advanced nations, yet the United States ranks near the bottom of the 30 leading industrialized nations in basic measures of health such as infant mortality and life expectancy.
Many families are struggling to afford skyrocketing premiums and increased co-pays and deductibles. Health care premiums have more than doubled in the last nine years, and one respected study shows that, if we fail to act, the average California family will have to spend 41 percent of its income for health insurance premiums by 2016.
con't..
The growing number of uninsured is also contributing to higher costs: 46 million Americans do not have health insurance, and every day, another 14,000 Americans lose their coverage when they become seriously ill or lose or change their jobs. As a result, families with insurance are paying an extra $1,100 a year on average in premium costs.
Moreover, poor regulation of insurance companies means that even those with health insurance coverage are not always guaranteed to get the benefits they are promised. In recent months, I have heard from so many Californians who can't get health insurance because of a pre-existing condition, or who are denied the medical treatment prescribed by a doctor because of insurance company bureaucrats. This is wrong, and we have to do better for our families.
That is why I support a strong bill, and I will work hard to include a public interest option.

Health care premiums have more than doubled in the last nine years, and one respected study shows that, if we fail to act, the average California family will have to spend 41 percent of its income for health insurance premiums by 2016.
In October 2009, I signed a letter authored by Senator Sherrod Brown to Majority Leader Reid insisting that the health care bill include the public option because I believe it is the best way to ensure competition in the marketplace. Americans who like their current health coverage would be able to keep it unchanged. But for our families and small businesses that can't afford or can't obtain coverage under the current system, a public interest option would be a safe haven.
We also need stronger regulation and penalties against insurance companies that discriminate against those with pre-existing conditions or drop those who become seriously ill. We must increase investments in prevention and wellness. And health care reform must not add a single dollar to the federal deficit.
As we move forward, I will fight for a bill that meets these principles.
Again, thank you for writing to me. Please feel free to contact me again about this or other issues of concern to you.
Barbara Boxer
United States Senator
P4V: If you believe what Boxer told you, I would suggest that you lay off the kool-aid.
Example: the average California family will have to spend 41 percent of its income for health insurance premiums by 2016.
This is absolutely impossible. We already pay so much in taxes that there is not going to be 41 percent left to buy health insurance with!
Maybe she means "after taxes" income?
Now, nobody is saying "We do not need health care reform" but the answer is not to create a massive government system. The answer is to fix the things that need fixing, and there is no urgent rush to do it.
Imagine you take your car to the shop for a tune-up and next thing you know they are trying to convince you that the engine needs a complete re-build. "I know the gas mileage has been off a bit, but its driving down the road and I don't have the money to pay for a complete rebuild!" is what most people would respond with.
"But you don't have a choice..after all, I am not JUST a mechanic, I am a government mechanic and I get to tell you what you need!" says the lanky mechanic with funny ears.
Have you checked out the Republican option yet? Its more practical and much less expensive.
Y-S: Have you not learned yet that Bcapp1 does not deal with data and or facts... even if it is reported on CNN, CBS, NBC, NY Times etc. etc. etc.. He is always right, just ask him. He has no tolerance for others that may not see the world as he see's it.
Dear Y_S,
I think that what she means is that if there is no competition in health insurance by way of health care--please note the difference--that drive to unregulated premiums will eat its host. Of course no one can pay 41%--but that is the projection.
The irony is that non profit health care is cheaper and more competitive--it just is.
It is not about a person's freedom being taken from them--human beings do not do well in isolation-actually they will die or go crazy from lack of human contact. We need to work it out so that we care for each other while letting the other person develop their uniqueness and their true inner compass for their destiny. I also think that we need to recognize that many times the source of health problems are social in nature, either we get a disease from someone else or we get it because the environment has become unhealthy through pollution or problems with human waste. It is a social situation that insurance companies are not going to deal with. All they care about is that they can charge enough to make money. That is part of why health care really is social issue and rightfully in the government sphere.
I have listened to McClintock. I won't accuse him of lying as you did Boxer but I think that he lives in a world where human beings are secondary to an economic theory. His fight for individualism is misplaced because he believes that people only respond to the whip and the lash of survival.

Personally, I believe that Social Darwinism is the curse of the American people and is the source of most of our major social problems.
chase2you,
What in the world are you talking about? How did I earn you ire?
Robert Capp
P4V: I am actually 100% for government regulation of corporations, including insurance companies, to make sure that they are operating in an ethical manner.
The problem is that the insurance companies are dumping millions into our congress to drive policy.
But you cannot ignore that the SEIU is also dumping millions into our congress to create a system full of unionized government health workers.
We need a private system that is designed to optimize efficiency and reduce cost for those who are working and purchasing health care. We do not need to cover 100% of the people within our borders. If we give stuff away, it takes away the incentive to work. Socialism is a failed economic system.
Actually, socialism encourages productivity because a person knows that his efforts add to his prosperity instead of just the prosperity of the owner of the business. Ask the Alvarado St. Bakery employees--
Its important not to confuse the state slave mentality of the now defunct Russian and Chinese communism with socialism.
"Don't talk to me about Chairman Mao. He never made it with anybody anyhow" The Beatles, of course
P4V: I appreciate your candor. Most socialists will not admit it openly. I think you are wrong, especially because we are not talking about a co-op where the people freely have the ability to join/exit but rather a national system where the government runs it and we have no choice.
If the government option is established, employers will dump their health plans in a heart beat (yes, corporations are big time in support of dumping their employees..remember, they are evil) and the Dems are getting corporate contributions.
Bcapp1: My apologies Bob, I am just cranky as of late after dealing with our wonderful Board of Supervisors who cannot read a set of factual statistics on a piece of paper.. In short if you point out to our BOS that 1 + 1 = 2 they will tell you no, no, no, that is not true cause you are talking about a total of three numbers being involved here... 2 ones and 1 two for the total of three numbers therefore 1 + 1 can equal three...... see. They are clueless... again my apologies.
chase2you,
Thanks. You may have mis-construed some of my posts/replies from other blogs. At least that is what I hope. I do not watch/read "CNN, CBS, NBC, NY Times etc. etc. etc..".
Thanks,
Robert Capp
BCapp1. There are times to reason, and there are times to call em as you see em. Arguing or attemtping to reason with a fool is a dead end.
Besides, my logic was flawless.
Obama went for the golden ring - socialize our health care - thinking that if he got that, he would be the greatest socialist president of all time.
The people do not want socialized medicine, they want tax cuts, reductions in government size and scope.
