Take Advantage of Your College Network

The majority of Early Action and Early Decision college applicants have already submitted their applications for admission or will do so in the next few days. If you are one of these students, I suggest you follow-up your application with a letter and an updated résumé to the more influential college representatives you met during the course of researching and visiting colleges.

Send a letter and résumé to only college representatives you feel support your acceptance to their college or university. This may include professors you interviewed with months ago, an alumnus with whom you spoke with at length, or another college representative with whom you held a conversation. A letter and résumé should NOT be sent to the admissions officer handling your application file or with whom you interviewed with earlier this year; admission officer(s) will be receiving and reviewing all of your application materials and don’t need duplicate information.

Sending a letter and résumé will make an excellent impression and may prompt college representatives to contact the admissions office on your behalf. A phone call or e-mail from a representative to the admissions office will help the college make a positive decision about your admission.
