Advent Meditation - Day 1

Day 1-

As God was physically formed in Mary, so he wills to be spiritually formed in you.

If you knew he was seeing through your eyes, you would see in everyone a child of God.

If you knew that he worked through your hands, they would bless all the day through...if you knew that he wants to use your mind, your will, your fingers, and your heart, how differently you would be.

If half the world did this, there would be no war!

"The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name." - Gospel of Luke 1:49

- The word "adventus" is Latin for "a coming" or "an arrival." Advent is a season of joy as we prepare to celebrate Jesus' birth in Bethlehem. Advent is also a time to rekindle hope. Because God has entered our physical world, nothing in our human experience is beyond hope or meaning.

(This is a series of daily meditations, leading up to Christmas Day, collected from the writings of the late Bishop Fulton J. Sheen. Bishop Sheen, whose words captivated most of America of every denomination, had great love for all people. With his uncanny wit, he inspired, taught and counciled millions of Americans weekly. He broadcasted on radio from 1930-1950 and then on television from 1951 to 1968. His television show "Life is Worth Living" won him an Emmy Award and his foundation is still broadcasting his shows on radio and television.)

Observer,

Thanks for sharing this - I look forward to the rest.

Robert Capp

ps. Where has Birch been?

bcapp1,

Speaking of "where's he been", where you been?

Birch is either in the witness protection program......or he's in jail somewhere in the bowels of Mexico. It might be embarrassing for Lady Observer to answer your question so don't expect one.

Observer,

Yes, thanks for this nice post. I'm hoping you don't experience bloggers fatigue like Birch bordered on last year with his Lent postings.

BB ................. "what does veinte anos mean"?

bcapp1 - Birch is safe and home with me :-)

greg - you funny man! Yes, I expect this gift of the Advent meditations to bring some fatigue, however, the desire to share it is greater (See post above). Birch is on haitus from these blogs so I will answer your question. Veinte anos means "twenty years."

Veinte Años (with the tilde) is Spanish for "twenty years". Veinte Anos (without the tilde) is Spanish for "twenty anuses."

Greg -

Help! I can't stop repeating my post.

Skeptic,

My, I've never known you to studder. ;-)

Did you ever read "The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers" comic books?

In one of their hilarious episodes one of those crazy dudes was thrown into a Mexican prison on drug charges and the first thing he asked his new cell mate was, "what does viente anos mean?".

Since he's been mysteriously missing from this board, I'm just playing with Birch and he knows it.

Doesn't the treeman's new moniker start with an "E"?

Gail,

That would be an Enormous assumption on your part!

I've been somewhat accurately accused in the past of being a person who has a difficult time withholding pertinent, truthful, and secretive information regarding anonymous persons on this board. At least that's what Birch says about me.

So, Gail, in the interest of dispelling that harsh and hurtful assessment, my lips (and typing fingers) are sealed!

And to our fellow blog-bud, the infamous, effusive, illustrious, enigmatic, Herr Whitebark, good day sir wherever you are!

Gail - I have suspected the same.

Capp & Greg: I'm right here, guys. I've been avoiding the blogs due to what I perceive to be a trend towards belligerency that is pervading the Journal. I've grown tired of the constant stream of personal attacks, insults, and other assorted meanderings of the crowd lately. God knows I've fallen prey to the temptation myself on occasion... but I prefer to stay above the fray as much as possible. Debasement, slander, and petty bickering are hardly qualities I wish to emulate.

It's good to hear from you guys. :)

P.S. Skeptic: Ah yes, Los Hermanos Extraños Peludos.

I liked Euripides, too. Can't we have both? (calling) Oh, Euripides.....where art thou?

Birch,

You are wise to recognize the belligerency and it does become a credo for so many here that I too, have cut back.

Take care of yourself,

bob

Gail: From what little I saw of Euripides... he seemed about as affable as any other foul tempered cretin around here.

Right on, Bob. I'll see you around. :)

BB........"foul tempered cretin"...........?

To quote Skeptic, " I see".

Well, you and Bob might be putting up a gallant effort to escape the gravitational pull of planet Bloggospere, but your presence here today speaks volumes about how that's going.

See you both around. ;-)

Greg: Ha! That is funny. Now stop talking to me so I can go on ignoring you.

Oh, thanks! Now you've personalized your mission.

Oh, by the way, I spoke with Claudia yesterday and she'll be out of town THIS week, not last week.

(sigh) Dangit, Greg! How am I to remain aloof when you insist on conversing with me?

Oh, how can I say "no" to that face. C'mere you little ragamuffin! (insert - headlock and subsequent "noogie")

Ok, I'll call Claudia next week. Today Observer & I are heading up to Alta and cutting down our Christmas tree... I'm getting old, Greg. I'll need a massage sometime after that.

Birch,

If you need a massage after cutting down a Christmas tree, then you ARE getting old!

Try the headlock on me sometime and see what it gets you. ;-)
