Guitar Legend Dick Dale (aka "King of the Surf Guitar") will perform for the first time ever in Auburn on Saturday, December 19th. Opening the show will be local "surf guitar heroes" The Pyronauts! The show takes place at the Auburn Event Center (145 Elm Ave) and doors open at 7pm. It's an all ages concert which will allow the young and old to experience the thrill of surf music right here in our home town!

Here's a little background info on Dick Dale. If his name doesn't sound familiar, his music certainly should. Dale made it big in Southern California in the early 1960s playing at dance halls for the local surfer kids. At one point the Beach Boys even opened for him! His 1962 hit song, Misirlou, has been used in everything from Mountain Dew commercials to film soundtracks such as "Pulp Fiction." More recently the Black Eyed Peas also sampled and wrote words to the song in their hit entitled "Pump It." Misirlou also appears in Guitar Hero II. Dale's other noteworther songs include Let's Go Trippin', Mr. Peppermint Man, Surf Beat, and even a version of the surf classic "Pipeline" that he recorded with Stevie Ray Vaughan. The duo was even nominated for a Grammy Award in the instrumental category! His guitar playing was also featured on the Space Mountain ride at Disneyland. Dick Dale's sound envokes the power of the surf, the culture of Southern California, and blasts it all into space with his unique speed-demon-reverb-drenched-machine-gun style staccato picking.

The Pyronauts have been pumping out the own brand of surf music since 1999 in the Auburn area. You've heard them at Cruise Nite, Gold Country Fair, Relay for Life, Mountain Mandarin Festival, St. John's Fall Festival, Pistol Pete's Brew and Cue, and various other Auburn venues and events. The Pyronauts frequently travel to both Los Angeles and the Bay Area and have performed over 475 times in the past ten years! In 2005 the band played a total of 14 days at the California State Fair and they have opened for Legendary Dick Dale 12 times before and look forward to finally being able to share that with their hometown. The band is known for their crazy stage antics and gigantic smiles. Fun is the name of the game for The Pyronauts!
