Bush Incites War Between Russia/Georgia
John McCain Stealing Election

The story is going to come out that George Bush, the man who stole the 2000 election, is now about to steal the 2008 election. He purposely incited the Russians to attack Georgia because his political henchmen figured that it would help John McCain.

From Reuters, "By John Whitesides, Political Correspondent

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - In a sharp turnaround, Republican John McCain has opened a 5-point lead on Democrat Barack Obama in the U.S. presidential race and is seen as a stronger manager of the economy, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.

McCain leads Obama among likely U.S. voters by 46 percent to 41 percent, wiping out Obama's solid 7-point advantage in July and taking his first lead in the monthly Reuters/Zogby poll.

The reversal follows a month of attacks by McCain, who has questioned Obama's experience, criticized his opposition to most new offshore oil drilling and mocked his overseas trip.

The poll was taken Thursday through Saturday as Obama wrapped up a weeklong vacation in Hawaii that ceded the political spotlight to McCain, who seized on Russia's invasion of Georgia to emphasize his foreign policy views.

"There is no doubt the campaign to discredit Obama is paying off for McCain right now," pollster John Zogby said. "This is a significant ebb for Obama."

McCain now has a 9-point edge, 49 percent to 40 percent, over Obama on the critical question of who would be the best manager of the economy -- an issue nearly half of voters said was their top concern in the November 4 presidential election.

That margin reversed Obama's 4-point edge last month on the economy over McCain, an Arizona senator and former Vietnam prisoner of war who has admitted a lack of economic expertise and shows far greater interest in foreign and military policy.

McCain has been on the offensive against Obama during the last month over energy concerns, with polls showing strong majorities supporting his call for an expansion of offshore oil drilling as gasoline prices hover near $4 a gallon.

Obama had opposed new offshore drilling, but said recently he would support a limited expansion as part of a comprehensive energy program.

That was one of several recent policy shifts for Obama, as he positions himself for the general election battle. But Zogby said the changes could be taking a toll on Obama's support, particularly among Democrats and self-described liberals.

"That hairline difference between nuance and what appears to be flip-flopping is hurting him with liberal voters," Zogby said.

Obama's support among Democrats fell 9 percentage points this month to 74 percent, while McCain has the backing of 81 percent of Republicans. Support for Obama, an Illinois senator, fell 12 percentage points among liberals, with 10 percent of liberals still undecided compared to 9 percent of conservatives.

OBAMA NEEDS TO WORK ON BASE

"Conservatives were supposed to be the bigger problem for McCain," Zogby said. "Obama still has work to do on his base. At this point McCain seems to be doing a better job with his."

The dip in support for Obama, who would be the first black U.S. president, cut across demographic and ideological lines. He slipped among Catholics, born-again Christians, women, independents and younger voters. He retained the support of more than 90 percent of black voters.

"There were no wild swings, there isn't one group that is radically different than last month or even two months ago. It was just a steady decline for Obama across the board," Zogby said.

Obama's support among voters between the ages of 18 and 29, which had been one of his strengths, slipped 12 percentage points to 52 percent. McCain, who will turn 72 next week, was winning 40 percent of younger voters.

"Those are not the numbers Obama needs to win," Zogby said about Americans under 30. The 47-year-old is counting on a strong turnout among young voters, a key bloc of support during his primary battle with New York Sen. Hillary Clinton.

It made little difference when independent candidate Ralph Nader and Libertarian Party candidate Bob Barr, who are both trying to add their names to state ballots.

McCain still held a 5-point edge over Obama, 44 percent to 39 percent, when all four names were included. Barr earned 3 percent and Nader 2 percent.

Most national polls have given Obama a narrow lead over McCain throughout the summer. In the Reuters/Zogby poll, Obama had a 5-point lead in June, shortly after he clinched the Democratic nomination, and an 8-point lead on McCain in May.

The telephone poll of 1,089 likely voters had a margin of error of 3 percentage points.

The poll was taken as both candidates head into their nominating conventions and the announcements of their choices of vice presidential picks. The Democratic convention begins on Monday in Denver, with the Republican convention opening the next Monday, September 1, in St. Paul, Minnesota..

Like I said, he is stealing this election with Bush's help!

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US voters believe by a two-to-one margin that Republican White House candidate John McCain is better qualified than his rival Barack Obama to deal with a resurgent Russia, a new poll found on Tuesday.

The Quinnipiac University survey also finds McCain gaining on his Democratic rival in the national race, in which he now trails by 47 percent to 42 percent overall, ahead of party nominating conventions next week and the week after.

McCain had been down 50 to 41 percent nationally in the same independent organization's poll in July.

The Republican senator has attempted to leverage the fallout of Russia's showdown with Georgia, and his own vehement early condemnation of Moscow's actions, to portray Obama as lacking in commander-in-chief credentials.

sorry to say this, but your portrayal of this information combined with the opinion/platitudes that "Bush purposely incited the Russians to attack Georgia in order to help McCain" smacks of far left fringe talk and won't help your cause to support Obama. i dislike these kind of out of left field things as much as any fringe suppositions, right or left.

Is there any wonder why people make fun of stupid democRats?? More, please! This is funny!

placer_democrat - you know, you kind of write like Rational_Thinker. I would almost think you could be him, except I'm sure he wouldn't be so dishonest as to try to trick people who didn't know any better like that, right?

Ya, Bush is an incompetent boob and a maniacal genius at the same time.

troll!!

Kitty, I don't know who wrote this but it is so far out I'm inclined to think that it really is an attempt by someone to make Democrats look very stupid, something they sometimes don't need any help with. This is really waaaaaay out.

My first reaction was to write an equally far out response but then the light went on.

You know, I agree with you loomisresident, on all of it. Perhaps unfair to suspect R_T as it could be any one. To me it definitely came across as bogus. That's too bad, I would hope it doesn't become a trend, it's dishonest.

LR & kitty... i'm almost embarrassed to admit that i started to buy into it being a legitimate nutcase's opinion. and then JUST after hitting send on my response, a light went on and immediately knew it was someone trolling. i was a little slow last night LOL

Interesting. I thought this was just another post from ultra fringe Jack Sanchez.

What a buch of hyporcites! All you can do it criticize! This paper is a waste of time!

LOL!

Its funny that I get blamed for this. I found it no nuttier than some of the Charlie Sheen "Bush brought down the twin towers" conspiracy stuff you see on the blogs around here.

pd: You really need to take a pill...or perhaps you already did?

there is no p_d, R_T, it's made up.

Wow, now even being better qualified is stealing the election! Of course people trust McCain more! He's actually capable of running the country.

kittyv - It's worse than that. There is no p_d, R-T, Realist, MeX-21 or InconvenientPest. All of them are in fact, just one lonely troll who pretends to be a plurality by submitting posts agreeing with himself. How pathetic is that?

"Of course people trust McCain more! He's actually capable of running the country." ...

(into the ground).

McCainiac would lead us into WWIII. Hopefully the voters aren't as stupid as they were in the last two presidential elections. Wait a minute, does stealing an election count as winning?

I forgot to log Bootsz out. My bad.

and then there's ThosPayne....what are your other monikers? There are just as many left loonies as there are right loonies. This forum lets you all play in the same loonie-bin!!

keepingupdated: It is funny to watch Thomas (P-A-I-N-E You idiot!) Payne (aka: Ron) project his behaviors upon others.

I *used* to post under different names but that was only after my "Prospector" moniker was stolen (by guess who?) and I went into Lonny Rowe mode.

The most amazing thing is that he continues to post under the misspelled moniker as if he did it with intent, but it was clear that he simply misspelled it and did not even realize it for close to a month. Once I pointed it out, he got quiet and did not use it for quite a while.

I personally think its funny.

I also think its funny that he (and some of his other aliases) continue to assume anyone with a conservative perspective is me. They probably think you are me too. LOL

Oh, and I left out the best part.

I would not be surprised if Ron is also posting as p_d with the objective of making it look exceptionally stupid and then blaming a conservative for doing it.

I have to admit, when I saw that post I kinda scratched my head and said "OK...Bush is evil so you put up a great picture of McCain and cite polls that show Obama tanking?"

I wonder if he gets his meds from a Mexican pharmacy. That might explain it all.

I have to comment on Obama's VP pick. Just a few short weeks ago, Biden was saying that Obama was not ready to lead, that the Presidency was no place for On the Job Training, etc. Now he's saying that Obama is the man to lead this Country. Well I guess politicians will say and do whatever to get elected and get power.

Now, if Obama gets elected will his tenure be like GW Bush's, the rookie is the President and the VP is the seasoned Washington insider who is the one really running thee Country. Isn't that what the Democrats have been saying about Cheney all along?

Funny, same thing, different party. We really need a third Party, the two major ones are very hard to distinguish from each other.

Have a great Sunday

When I first started writing my comments, I was accused a couple times of being others. I immediately stated that NO, I was not those others, but having no method of proving so told them they would have to figure it out on their own, which they have. It's one thing to have a few different names espousing the same information, stances, and values. It is another to pretend to be the opposite of your belief so you can generate disgust. It is dishonest, and deceiving, and frankly, twisted. Placer_democrat is listed as "a single mother of three and an educator". The word demorcrat is used in the monikor so anyone who may not be familiar with this forum will assume this is the voice of Democrats in Placer. I find that very offensive, including the use of single mother like it would be derogatory. loomisresident brings up a topic worth discussing, but I refuse to give this disengenous post ANY CREDIBILITY as a forum for political discussion.

It should be removed.

clarification: removed by the person that posted it.

It's a bit.h getting old, One forgets what one was saying and soon loses one's train of thought.

Stammering when pressed for answers or clarification. It's sad indeed.

wow Placer_democrat

you have so little faith in your post that you're the first comment

hasn't anyone told you that Bush won in 2000 ?

and not only the elecoral college but the popular vote

you see PD, millions of absentee ballots were not counted because even if Bush had gotten every vote, like in Ca - he would still not have taken the state

and in Ca there were 1.5 million votes not counted because Bush had lost by way more

and in Ca, as in other states, absentee ballots heavily favor republicans

now, as to your use of polls, the election results, 2004 and 2000 in the encycloedia

polls for Gore and Hanoi John Kerry were both wrong

but on the "base" Obama needs to work on

what is that, the Muslim base or the racist base ?

Watching McCain would be funny (like watching Bush) if it wasn't so sad.
